Colonia del Sacramento
Colonia del Sacramento is a living witness of decades of various assaults and sieges, its architecture keeps its Portuguese and Spanish colonial constructions, and vestiges still remain of each of its settlers, such as the moat, the drawbridge, and the bastions. Declared "Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 1995, it offers its visitors the mysteries of its cobblestones streets, with hidden legends beneath each streetlamp and secrets disclosed in jasmine and honeysuckle scents.
Montevideo
The successive arrival of European immigrants transformed Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, into a very cosmopolitan city. Its cultural diversity and picturesque fusion of Spanish, Italian and Art Deco style give it a touch of sophistication. A visit to the Old City, a gastronomic foray to the Port Market, and a stroll in the evening through Rambla, are a must.
